Each November, the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club sets up our HO Scale layout on the grounds of the Valley Railroad in Essex, CT in support of the Valley’s annual “Day Out With Thomas” extravaganza. This great event brings children and families from all over the northeast to see a real life Thomas The Tank Engine, who is the star of the children’s show “Thomas and Friends”. Our display, situated in the old factory building adjacent to the Essex Station, is just one of the many attractions for the Thomas faithful to enjoy. This years layout was 52’ x 20’, and featured our massive passenger station module, the new sawmill complex, and various other modules, including Stu’s Yard, Bill Evan’s Crazyville module, John’s Block Signal Demo module, and Larry’s Canyon. Attendance for the event, which runs for the first two weekends in November, exceeds 5000 people per day. Many a smiling face was treated to the usual operations of the M&P, with everything from Amtrak’s Acela, to an HO scale Thomas the Tank Engine, to New Haven DL-109’s and steamers gracing the mainlines. The weather was great for both weekends, and now that’s its over, we’re looking forward to next years “Day Out With Thomas”.-Dan DeLany, Club President For more information on the Valley Railroad, visit their website at: http://www.essexsteamtrain.com/index.html
