BIG Railroad Hobby Show Preview Major Changes to HO Layout Highlight Mohegan Pequot Display |
Every winter, the Big Railroad Hobby Show presented by the Amherst Railway Society at the Big E in West Springfield, MA, is the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad clubs biggest display of the year. This year will be no exception. Four scales will be participating, including HO, N, On30, and G scales, during the weekend of January 27 and 28. Our HO scale layout has undergone massive renovations in the past year, with a number of modules being prepared for their debut at this years show. I am very impressed and proud of the work by our members over the last two years and am excited to reap the benefits of the new module work sessions at this years show, said Dan DeLany, President of the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club. He continued, This years display will showcase our new lightweight module design and construction and show our renewed focus on scenery and aesthetics.

In all, 8 new module sets consisting of 30 module sections will make their debut at the show. In addition, 8 modules which made a debut at the show last year are now substantially complete. This rejuvenation of the HO layout has dropped the average module age to just 3.3 years. This years layout will be in a U-configuration and feature 58 module sections in total, filling in a 42 x 72 area (Click here for a pdf of the proposed HO layout). A club information table will also be set up in front of the HO layout which will include pictures, information sheets, and a computer for train show attendees to surf our club website, www.mprr.org. In addition to the HO scale layout, the club will also set up a 36x54 G scale layout, an 8 x 24 On30 layout, and an 18 x 24 N scale layout. All of these layouts will be located in the Young Building. Stop by and check out all of our progress. We hope to see you in West Springfield on January 27 and 28.
