Description:
The new DeLany Yard is the latest evolution of the
original Delany Yard Complex, which was retired in early 2005. Dad and
I had finally maxed out the 16' x 2.5' space of the original modules, and
decided to retire them and build all new modules. The new yard complex
will feature a larger classification yard, a new autorack unloading
facility, and a newer and larger engine facility and shop complex. The
classification yard holds approximately 75 cars, while the autorack facility
holds 24 autoracks. The new engine facility features a large sanding
and fueling pad, and 3 locomotive storage tracks. The shop complex
area features a new Walthers 135' turntable, and a diesel shop capable of
servicing 12 locomotives inside the shop building itself. The total
capacity of the locomotive servicing area will be approximately 50
locomotives. The trackwork has been designed to allow for multiple
train movements in and out of the yard, to both the inside and outside main
lines. The design of the engine facility will allow for multiple
lashups of diesels to move in and out of the facility simultaneously.
The overall design of the yard has recently been modified to include a
corner module on the left end of the yard. This will allow for two
run-through yard tracks, in addition to the 4 stub end yard tracks.-Dan
