To breakup the industrial and city themed modules, scenic modules provide some space and a transition between these scenes.  There are numerous elements that can provide these scenic breaks - like rivers, hills, cuts, fills, tunnels, overpasses - which can help to provide scenic relief around the layout.

Apple River Bridge BranchTRAK Track Plan

Apple River Bridge

A large railroad bridge almost always creates an impressive scene on a module.  This particular design would feature a large river - the Apple River - spanned by a truss bridge.  Two plate girder approach spans lead to the main truss bridge span over the channel in the middle of the river.

Mountain Creek BranchTRAK Track Plan

Mountain Creek

To break up the parallel lines of the module, the Mountain Creek module has a built in S-curve on the mainline.  The scenic elements, like the creek and other topography, should be arranged to make the curves in the mainline feel plausible.  A small house and country road help to fill out the scene.

The 17th Hole BranchTRAK Track Plan

The 17th Hole

One of my friend's built a module featuring a golf hole many years ago and I've been fascinated with how to build such a manicured landscape and make it look realistic.  This module includes a similar par 3 hole to the full size module which was constructed and includes a fair amount of topography with the tee box set a few inches above the elevation of the mainline flowing down to green set just below track level.
