Old Saybrook, CT

Overview of the Old Saybrook modules.

Matt Wiwczar constructed this 2′ x 12′ module set based on Old Saybrook, CT, in the late 1990s.  Having spent many a summer afternoon railfanning Providence and Worcester freights as well as Amtrak passenger trains on the station platform at Old Saybrook, Matt decided to build this representation for the the club.  The module featured a model of the Tilcon gravel plant and Fortune Plastics industries served near the station as well as a model of the station platforms.  A small 1′ x 4′ extension was added to the back of the module set to include the wye off the mainlines that leads up to the Valley Railroad – home of the Essex Steam Train.

The module set was constructed in the late 1990s and early 2000s and was built using innovative benchwork techniques for the time like attaching the legs to the module – a rarity in the club.    The modules are currently in a state of semi-retirement.
